POP QUIZ: CALL FIDO TO SET! HERE BOY! (answers)

And a special doggy treat goes to Gord G, who got a 9/10 on this weeks quiz. Who’s a good boy? Who’s a good boy?
Last week, the high score was Jen G, a.k.a Mrs Gord, who attributed her food knowledge to watching loads of cooking shows. This week, Gord won a quiz about TV pets. The thing is, I know that Gord & Jen don’t just sit around their house watching TV all day. Sometimes they come to my house and watch TV.

1) A dog called Paul Anka
2) Gary the snail
3) A Cockatoo named Fred
4) Elvis the alligator, who lived on a boat
5) A dog called Buck, who occasionally had voice-over ‘lines’
6) Spot, the dragon who lived under the stairs
7) A lethargic Basset Hound called Flash
8) A pit-bull called Backup, who acted as … well, you know
9) A pig named Arnold
10) A (presumably well-adjusted) Jack Russell Terrier called Eddie

1) GILMORE GIRLS
2) SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS
3) BARETTA
4) MIAMI VICE
5) MARRIED WITH CHILDREN
6) THE MUNSTERS
7) THE DUKES OF HAZZARD
8) VERONICA MARS
9) GREEN ACRES
10) FRAZIER

One of the three birds that played ‘Fred’ on Baretta was stolen from the San Diego Zoo in 1990. The bird, who actually was called Fred, had been performing shows at the Zoo since leaving the TV series and had won a Patsy award, which the article I read describes as “the animal equivalent of an Academy Award”. Fred the Cockatoo’s career lasted long after Robert Blake’s ended, I guess.

In putting together this quiz, I looked at several different websites that had lists of “The 20 greatest TV pets” or something similar. Almost every one of them lists “Santa’s Little Helper” from The Simpsons, and not one mentioned Snowball (or Snowball II, or Snowball III, or Snowball IV a.k.a. Coltrane, or Snowball V, who was renamed to Snowball II to save on buying a new dish).

Thanks,
QM Bill
