POP QUIZ: UNINTENTIONAL DOUBLE FEATURE

(If you’re checking out a Trivialitycheck.com ‘Pop Quiz’ for the first time: Every Wednesday (or most, anyway) I post ten trivia questions, usually on some kind of theme. If you respond with answers or guesses, I’ll tell you your score. Send your answers to host@trivialitycheck.com with the title of this post as the subject line. The full set of answers is posted the following week, along with congratulations to the high scorer(s). No googling!)

“Twin Films” is a strange phenomenon, around since the early days of Hollywood, of two studios releasing similar, sometimes VERY similar, films at the same time. Occasionally, it’s one studio copying another, other times it seems to just be coincidence.

“Jezebel” starring Bette Davis and “Gone With The Wind” starring Vivien Leigh came out only a year apart, in ’38 and ’39, and both featured female leads portraying strong, independent Southern Women during the U.S. Civil War. Reportedly, “Jezebel” was hastily put together and rushed out first, after Bette found out she hadn’t got the part in GWtW. Turned out to be a better film, IMHO.

“Deep Impact” and “Armageddon” both came out in 1998. “Antz” and “A Bugs Life” both came out in 1998 as well.

Given the year and a brief description of each film, name BOTH “Twin Films” (in order!).
