POP QUIZ: YOU TAKE THE GOOD, YOU TAKE THE BAD (answers)
And the square eyeballs award this week goes to Michel P and Dee Dee T, who each scored 6/10 on the TV Theme quiz. Tough quiz, I thought, so way to go both of you. Now, read a book or something, would ya?
The clips are still available to hear, here.
1) SPACE 1999
2) ROOTS (1977 original version)
4) THE I.T. CROWD
5) MAGNUM P.I. (original)
6) THE WEST WING
7) CRIMINAL MINDS
10) COP ROCK
Number five was basically the whole reason I wanted to do this quiz. I LOVE that original theme. It only lasted the first eleven episodes, and then it switched to the much-more guitar driven and hard-edged theme song that lasted the rest of the series 162 episodes. And that switch, from jazz to rock, puts Magnum right where it belongs: on the bridge between seventies PI dramas and eighties PI dramas. Even the early episodes play a little more like Rockford files or Barnaby Jones then they do like Simon & Simon or even Murder She Wrote (with which Magnum eventually crossed-over). I think Magnum P.I. changed detective shows on American TV, and I think the theme songs are a good indicator of how.
Cop Rock, however…
